Creationism and Evolution

This post is mostly directed at Diana, SunDefined, about her text post about evolution the other day. As she is a christian who believes in creationism, though does except microevolution within a species. She is open minded and wanted to discuss evolution and what not, and one of the concerns she mentioned was why people believe in evolution so much. Which is a very good concern, as most people don’t even correctly understand Evolution, and even if they understand the concepts they don’t understand everything about it. I will also admit I don’t know much about it, I have done some research on the basics. Anyways

So I’m just going to share why it’s easier for people to trust in evolution, rather than creationism, even when not fully understanding it, at least from what I think the reason for it is.

Essential it comes down to the explanation of how the two concepts, creationism and evolution, get their information. Creationism by it’s own definition is based off faith. It’s based off what the bible, and other sacred texts, say, or as wikipedia explains it, ”Creationism is the religious belief that humanity, life, the Earth, and the universe are the creation of a supernatural being”

Where as Evolution is a theory, derive from natural observations of the universe and life. Evolution is based off science, and observations of nature itself. It’s not a set in stone concept, it adapts itself based off what we can observe from the world. If something is proven to be wrong, then the theory will change and adapt to whatever the rational explanation is. In the concept itself there is no faith associated with it.

That is why people are more likely to believe in evolution while not understanding it, because by definition, the concept of creationism is based off faith, where the concept of evolution is based off proven information, or the best “guess” based off proven information. Even if the decision to believe it is in faith, it’s because the concept is said to not be faith.
